Thread sealing tape is a film tape commonly used in sealing pipe threads. The tape is wound on a spool, making it easy to wrap around the pipe threads.
Using thread sealing tape prevents the threads from binding if you need to unscrew them. The tape also acts as a thread lubricant to seal the joint without making it difficult to tighten.
Typically the tape is wrapped three times around the pipe/fitting thread before being screwed into place.
